3G usage rises dramatically in the US

10 September 2008

US-based mobile internet access exceeds European in Q2

The second quarter on this year saw the use of 3G in the US increase by almost a third and surpass that of western Europe. A recent survey also broke down the internet use in varying categories.

According to Cellular News, the research outfit, Crisp Wireless, declared that users in the US performed a variety of tasks using 3G facilities. Some checked scores and highlights during their favourite games. The most internet use was found to be at the evenings and weekends, with young girls, in particular, being the category who utilised the phone the most at these times. Over a quarter of users used the included search engine to look for specific websites.

Boris Fridman, CEO at Crisp Wireless, said: 'The Index's second quarter results provides a great example of just how ubiquitous mobile is becoming.

'The Index's time usage and day-part data underlines the increasing importance of mobile, not only to consumers but to content providers and advertisers who now have tangible behavioural and contextual data they can use for planning and targeting mobile marketing campaigns across key content categories.'
