3G iPhone handset - QWERTY and Flip versions?

21 April 2008

Apple's 3G mobile phone format rumours and to lose exclusive supplier?

A whole host of new Apple iPhone 3G rumours have appeared - generally as a result of a recent article published by the Times Online. Among them are reports that the new 3G incarnation of the popular handset will arrive with a QWERTY keyboard (possibly for business use?) and a flip screen version (to increase the screen area?)

Apparently the proposed launch of the 3G version of iPhone was a major influence on the recent price cut of the standard iPhone. Sources say that the European release sales figures of the iPhone has been a disappointment. Apple is reportedly eager to push out the 3G version of iPhone in Europe, which is known to utilise more advanced phone networks. Hence, the recent price cut of the standard iPhone was initiated to clear the back log, ready for the 3G launch.

The Times Online also reports that Apple will drop its exclusive O2 contract, in this country, by October 2009. The move would relate to Apple relying more on income from future software downloads than income from carriers.
