Five battery packs to buy if you don't fancy Apple’s Smart Battery Case

Apple has introduced its first ever Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s today. Offering up to 25 hours of additional battery life, the case also offers a high level of protection.

The battery case is made of soft touch silicone and is lined with microfiber material. Available in Charcoal Grey and White, the case hugs the upper and lower ends of an iPhone 6 or 6s and protrudes slightly in the middle to accommodate the extra battery.

The battery case works so well with iPhones that when you plug in your iPhone, the battery case will get charged at the same time and will not need to be charged separately. Through iOS 9, you will be able to view the battery status of your iPhone as well as of the Smart Battery Case.

Apple claims that once the Smart Battery Case is in use, the combined battery output of your iPhone will be able to support 'up to 18 hours of battery life for browsing the web and up to 20 hours of watching HD video.' Such stats are impressive for any smartphone in the class of iPhone 6s.

Both White and Charcoal Grey cases look great with any iPhone model, be it Silver, Gold, Space Grey or Pink Gold. Designed by Apple itself, the Smart Battery Case is compatible with Lightning accessories as well as the iPhone Lightning Dock which is sold separately. You will be able to purchase a Smart Battery Case from Apple's online store for just £79 starting now.

Even though a lot of accessory-makers have offered a large number of portable battery packs for iPhones, this is the first time we will be able to use a separate battery pack that is perfectly compatible with the latest iPhones and will be warranty-protected by Apple itself. As for criticism on its iPhone batteries, Apple seems to have closed that chapter for good.
