Huawei Mate 8 to feature a 128GB variant, no Force Touch on display

Images of Huawei's upcoming Mate 8 phablet made their appearance just days ago with a fresh new design, circular cameras and fingerprint scanner and a 6-inch display. The phone was much larger than the existing Huawei Mate S and we wondered if it will in fact be the best phablet to be released this year.

Just when we were wondering if Huawei will officially launch the Mate 8, several more leaks have entered the fray. According to the new ones, Huawei Mate 8 features storage options of 32/64/128GB and either 3GB or 4GB RAM based on the kind of variant.

However, unlike the Mate S, the display in Huawei Mate 8 will not feature the Force Touch technology that lets you open new menus and app settings by applying varying levels of pressure on the display. Given that the same feature is driving iPhone sales this quarter; we are curious why Huawei would neglect it in its next flagship phone.

Huawei Mate 8 will also contain a 4,000 mAh battery which should suffice for running a phone with a 6-inch display for an entire day under normal to heavy use. The Kirin 950 processor is also said to contain several battery-saving features.

Availability and pricing

To be launched in China before anywhere else, Huawei Mate 8 will launch in the first quarter of 2016, and should reach Europe a month or two from then. The three variants, namely, the 32GB, 64GB and the 128GB ones will be priced around £310, £385 and £455 at present rates if rumours are true.
