It's time for some VR fun. A brand new consumer version of Samsung's Gear VR is slated for release ]come November and will be compatible with almost all Samsung phones launched this year. What's more, it'll cost just around £65, probably as much as any fancy accessory to your Samsung phone, but with much greater incentives.
The existing Gear VR works only with the Galaxy S6 and the Note 4 phones, restricting its availability to a majority of potential users. Samsung is looking to change that for good. Having partnered with Oculus, creators of the Rift virtual reality (VR) headset and now a Facebook-owned company, Samsung claims the Gear VR represents the next generation in wearable technology.
But is there a point if you hold on to a fancy VR headset without the availability of any quality content?
Well, that is not the case. Game maker nDreams has created two games for the Gear VR, Gunner and Perfect Beach. While Perfect beach lets you lay back and relax with a great view of a personal beach along with meditation modes, Gunner offers a view of 2167- a year when rebels have waged war on humanity. Your mission is to control weapons to shoot down the enemy before they vanquish you.
Both games are quite good in terms of quality and precision, immersing you in the world of VR in quick time and offering a great incentive for buying the next Gear VR.
While the upcoming Gear VR resembles the existing one a lot in terms of looks, it does feature a new D-pad type cross button that you can also use as a trackpad. The gadget will also feature 360-degree videos being developed by Facebook.
