IFA 2015: Huawei show off Mate S phablet

Richard Yu, CEO Huawei Consumer Technology took to the stage to launch Huawei's latest flagship product.

The Mate S was unveiled amidst much fanfare and he proclaimed that at the centre of technology are human beings and that smart phones are a mere extension of us.

Huawei Mate S: Touch made powerful.

At 7.2mm, with the sides tapering to just  2.65mm. The Huawei Mate S's body is curved at the back for a comfortable grip. It also features 'skid resistance' which makes sure you dont drop the phone too easily. However, even if you were to drop it, the phone is fronted by 2.5D curved 4th gen gorilla glass just so most scratches dont register.

As we saw with the Honor 7, the Huawei Mate S's screen takes up 73 percent of the front of the phone. The edge of the LCD display is converted into a transparent frame that extends 2.25mm to the edge, resulting in a narrow exterior frame. And the similarities with the Honor 7 dont end here, the Mate S also has a unibody, aluminium alloy milled metal. Hidden antenna in the same colouring as the rest of the body makes sure there is break from the design feature. Huawei have today launched a new colour for the phone: Holistic Pink. Think a goldish pink. It sounds worse than it looks. Actually does look pretty good!

Pure, simple and purified design is how the CEO described it.

Huawei Mate S: Display

The 5.5-inch AMOLED FHD screen has a screen color saturation of 105 percent, and a contrast ratio 1800000:1 protected by 2.5D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4 Revolutionary401ppi, 5.5-inch FHD with 105% colour saturation rate and 18M:1 high contrast ratio.

As with all devices from the Chinese manufacturer, the phone comes with some fabulous features. They include:

Knuckle touch control 2.0 which allows you to perform some functions on the phone by rapping on the screen with your knuckle.

Fingerprint 2.0 helps the user interact with notifications, unlock the phone ans make and recieve phonecalls.

Huawei Mate S: Camera

The main camera is 13MP while the front facing one is 8MP and the phone rocks some additional camera feature like food and make up mode as well as Optical Image Stabilizer, RGBW, and independent ISP hardware.

The professional camera mode allows manual adjustment of ISO, exposure compensation, exposure time, and white balance.
