IFA 2015: GIGASET launches three new smartphones with Type-C USB ports!

Germany-based phone maker GIGASET has launched three new smartphones at IFA in Berlin today. Named GIGASET ME Pure, GIGASET ME and GIGASET ME Pro, these smartphones will be available in the UK later this month.


Both the GIGASET ME and GIGASET ME Pure feature 5-inch full HD displays while the larger GIGASET ME Pro features a 5.5 inch full HD display.


The GIGASET ME Pro phone leads the three in terms of camera technology with a 20MP primary and an 8MP front camera. The primary camera has a 120-degree wide angle lens and is also capable of recording 2k videos.

All three phones feature 8MP front cameras with 81.5-degree wide-angle lens and a specially developed 0.2-second autofocus.

Internal specs

Both the GIGASET ME and GIGASET ME Pro are equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 810 chip while the GIGASET ME Pure makes do with a Snapdragon 615 chip. Based on a 64-bit architecture what will let you run all types of apps and play high-quality games, all three phones are also compatible with the latest Android 5.5.1 Lollipop OS.

Both the GIGASET ME and GIGASET ME Pro contain 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, while the cheaper GIGASET ME Pure contains a 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. All the phones contain microSD slots for 128GB of additional storage. The phones are also the first ever smartphones in the world to feature USB Type-C ports which can be used to charge the phones twice as fast and enable data transfer at much faster speeds.

Sound quality

All three phones are equipped with dedicated Hi-Fi chipset and include Dirac® HD technology, which is optimised for music playback, as well as CSR Bluetooth® audio technology, offering wireless transmission via Bluetooth in CD quality. The phones also feature two microphones for better sound quality in noisy surroundings.

Internet speed

All GIGASET phones support 4G speeds and you will be able to perform downloads at up to 300 Mbps. Since these phones will be sold without contracts, you will also be able to choose a SIM as per your needs to go with the phones.

Additional features

GIGASET phones contain fingerprint sensors at the back which ensure fast and secure access and will also allow you to intuitively answer incoming calls. Your stored data will also be protected by a pre-installed Avira antivirus solution. The GIGASET ME Health Centre suite also offers access to a variety of sensors including a step counter and heart rate monitor.


While you will be able to buy the cheaper GIGASET ME Pure for just £249, the high-end GIGASET ME and GIGASET ME Pro will be available for £349 and £399 respectively.
