Sony Mobile has just made two new announcements. Depending on how you look at them, they are either two new cameras launched with smartphones as goodies or two new smartphones launched with cameras being the only features that can talk about. The official position is probably the latter.
Named the Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5, these two mid-range smartphones club the best in camera resolution with decent design, battery and overall performance.
Xperia C5 Ultra, the larger of the two, is probably the first phone which has 13MP resolution in both its front and rear cameras. A 6-inch Full HD display also lets you 'see what you click' and take the best selfies possible.
Both front and rear cameras contain Sony’s home-grown Exmor RS™ sensor, HDR quality for pictures and videos and ability to adjust settings automatically.
To be sold in black, white and a glossy soft mint colours, Xperia C5 Ultra will also contain a 2GB RAM, internal storage of 16GB, a 64-bit octa-core processor and a 2930 mAh battery.
The smaller Xperia M5 features a 21.5MP rear camera and a 13MP front camera. The new rear camera is said to contain a 5x Clear Image Zoom which should allow you to click objects that are far away akin to a compact digital camera. The front camera also hosts features like Face in picture, AR mask and Style portrait to make your selfies even better.
Xperia M5 also features a 5-inch full HD display, Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 for immersive viewing, premium glass finish on both sides and stainless steel corners. Its internals are armed with a 64-bit 2.0 GHz Octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 2,600 mAh battery offering up to two-day battery life. The phone also boasts an IP65 waterproof rating and an IP68 dust proof rating.
While both devices have their own advantages, it is difficult for us to pick a superior at this stage until Sony Mobile releases pricing and availability for both in the UK. However, the company has confirmed that they will start rolling out the new phones in the middle of August.
