Noted 'leak' experts on smartphones and tablets, @OnLeaks have now come up with images and specs of Samsung's next big venture that could be on collision course with Apple's next product launches come September.
Named the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the new phone, standing at 5.5 inches, will be at par with Apple's iPhone 6 Plus in terms of length. The overall dimensions of the phone will be 154.45x75.80x6.85mm.
Additional leaks also suggest that the new gadget may field the Snapdragon 808 as its processor instead of Samsung's home grown Exynos 7420 chip. Now, this comes as a surprise at a time when Samsung has made no secret of its loathing for overheating Snapdragon processors.
The new phone will be an upgrade over the existing Galaxy S6 Edge in terms of size as well as addition of a micro USB port in place of the existing USB Type-C port. However, there could be several updates on the design as well as internal features that we do not know about yet.
Going by its probable release in September, Samsung may be fielding the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as a formidable opponent of the next iPhone 6 Plus successor. However, the timing may confuse and divide Samsung's own fans as the launch date could coincide with the launch of the slightly larger Galaxy Note 5 as well.
While we are curious about how the Snapdragon 808 will perform in a phone as big and advanced as a 5.5 inch Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, its prohibitive cost may also be a factor to determine if Samsung will be able to compete effectively in the phablet-flooded market.
The existing Galaxy S6 Edge is the first smartphone ever to sport a dual-edged screen which helps users to view notifications and updates regularly. It features a glass body made of Gorilla Glass 4 in jewel-toned colours like White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald. Based on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, it runs on Octa-core Quad 2.1 GHz + Quad 1.5GHz processors and features CAT 6 LTE for 4G connectivity.
