In a welcome news for those who enjoy watching TV shows, movies and videos on their beloved tablets, TabletTV app for Android has reached the shores, just in time for the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.
Previously available for iPads, the TabletTV UK app will let users of Android tablets watch and record FreeView content across the country. At this moment, the service can be used by owners of 7-inch and 10-inch tablets from Samsung. More tablets will be covered by the end of the year, says Motive Television.
Leonard M Fertig, CEO of Motive, said, “The addition of Android devices to the TabletTV family is a major step forward due to the growing popularity of Android devices. The global potential market for TabletTV numbers is in the hundreds of millions – by the end of 2013 it is estimated that 6% of the global population used a tablet and 22% a smartphone. Further, the use of tablets for watching television is growing dramatically; as of December 2014 Mail Online reported that 17% of the British population watched TV on their tablets. There is little question that TabletTV is the right product at the right time.”
Indeed. Even though iPads constituted 26 per cent of the total tablet shipments in the first quarter of 2015, it would be foolish for app makers and video sharing services to exclude Android from their expansion plans. In Q1, over 38 per cent of all tablet shipments so far have been Android devices.
Along with the UK release, TabletTV US has also been launched for 7-inch and 10-inch Samsung tablets in the United States. Both countries, says Motive Television, constitute 75 per cent of the target market for TabletTVs.
