Google has launched its popular 'Google News & Weather' app for the Apple Watch in a move that suggests the internet search giant is willing to invest in a rival platform which has sold more units than all Android Wear devices together in the past year.
The new app, despite being launched, can either be said to be in its infancy or is a well-thought compromise by Google given the lack of space as well as technical limitations in the smartwatch.
Users of the Apple Watch will be able to swipe through the latest news and images on the app but will not have the luxury of reading the stories or send the contents to their iPhones. The stories will be arranged depending on the category chosen by the user.
The weather functionality is also non-existent at present but is something that Google will definitely upgrade in the near future.
In spite of its recent launch, the Apple Watch Store boasts an arsenal of thousands of apps specifically designed for the Apple Watch. Even though Google's apps may not be the best yet in its category, numbers do count, and astronomical sales of the Apple Watch is sure to make Google invest a lot more in developing apps for the gadget in the coming years.
