'Boris Cycles' users in London have a new reason to cheer. From now on, if you are one, you will be able to enjoy a new app introduced by Transport for London that will make cycle-hiring and docking easier than ever.
Named the Santander Cycles app, the new app will save you the effort of queuing up in cycle docking station terminals by letting you hire a cycle from a nearby docking station directly from the app. The charges incurred will be deducted from the bank card registered in the app.
Developed by Corethree, the British mobile ticketing firm, Santander Cycles app will also let you get the latest updates on spaces and cycles available in nearby docking stations as well as associated costs and duration of hire.
“The new Santander Cycles app will make finding and hiring a bike in our great Capital city even more of a doddle. The app is packed full of handy new features and is part and parcel of our plans to take the cycle hire scheme to the next level and encourage more people on to two wheels,” said Boris Johnson, Mayor of London.
The app will be available in both Android and iOS platforms for free and will also offer maps to users to plan their journeys.
Boris Cycles have so far been used for over 40 million rides since 2010, with a record 10 million rides hired in 2014 alone. The new Santander app is a well-thought of step by the Transport of London to encourage the recent uptrend in cycle usage.
