Having deferred the launch of the Xperia Z4 till September, tech giant Sony have begun upgrading the existing Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact models with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.
The new upgrade will feature in Sony's Z series devices in Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) and Baltic (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) countries in the next fortnight. The upgrade will continue to further markets once these regions have been covered.
The upgrade will bring in a range of updates and changes to the way Z series devices work. These include completely now looks for the lock screens as well as notifications.
The new upgrade will also see Xperia Z3 users gain access to the Android for Work ecosystem. This will bring in a range of work-related apps for email, contacts and calendar which support Exchange as well as Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.
The upgrade will also make it easier for users to transfer files and applications from their devices' internal storage to SD cards, thereby enabling more downloads free of internal storage issues.
The Lollipop OS will bring in multi-user profiles as well as guest modes to the Z3 and the Z3 Compact phones, enabling more people in the family to use a device at the same time.
The exact date of availability of Z3 phones with the Lollipop upgrade in the UK is yet to be announced by Sony, though we expect them to be available across Eurpoe in the second quarter of the year.
