Pebble has launched the all new Pebble Time Steel smartwatch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today.
A follow-up version of the existing Pebble Time smartwatch, the new device brings in a stainless steel finish in black, silver and gold and offers straps in both leather and stainless steel finish. The original Pebble Time smartwatch had plastic bosy and straps.
Being 1mm thicker than its predecessor, the Pebble Time Steel contains a larger battery that ensures up to 10 days of usage on a single charge. It also contains a colour display, microphone and runs on a 'Timeline' operating system.
To be priced at around £130, the stainless steel smartwatch will be available for sale from July onwards. Those who have pre-ordered the plastic model can get their ordered models changed to stainless steel versions at no extra cost.
Pebble is also working on the unique open platform 'smartstraps' concept that will allow developers to add certain features into the straps. Future Pebble straps could contain GPS trackers, heart rate monitors and other sensors along with being run on their separate chargeable batteries. Pebble could launch the first smartstraps befoe the end of the year.
We are not yet sure if Pebble has entered into any tie-ups to develop features for the smartstraps yet. However, we are certain that the new Pebble Time Steel smartwatch will provide users with more formal looks and feel.
