Electronics giant Samsung has finally launched the much anticipated Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge together at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
JK Shin, President and CEO of Samsung, opened the launch event holding the Galaxy S6 in his hand, claiming it to be the best smartphone in the world. With a mission to redefine the brand, engineers at Samsung worked with a philosophy of 'design with purpose' to create the best smartphone ever, Shin added.

With a full metal and glass body, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge promise greak looks coupled with a comfortable grip. The Galaxy S6 edge is the first dual curved smartphone in the world. The corning Gorilla Glass 4 was bent at temperatures of 800 degrees, and Samsung claims it is impossible to break the glass.
The glass body of the S6 Edge made of Gorilla Glass 4 will be available in jewel-toned colours like White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald.
Both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge contain F1.9 lenses and high resolution sensors in both their front and rear cameras. The 5MP front camera with real time HDR enables incredible shots in low light conditions. The rear camera (16MP) also contains a Smart Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and IR Detect White Balance to control advanced light sensitivities to deliver the finest images.
The cameras in both devices always stay on stand by, launching in under a second through the Quick Launch feature which is activated by double clicking on the home key button.
The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are the first ever Samsung devices to feature in built wireless charging features. The devices can work with any wireless charging pads available that are certified through WPC and PMA standards.

Both the devices are comparatively light-weight compared to other contemporary smartphones of similar category. The sizes and weights are as follows:

Being the first 64-bit platforms rolling out from Samsung's factories, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge offer higher performance and greater memory speed with lower power consumption. The LPDDR4 memory system and the UFS 2.0 Flash memory also adds to the overall performance of the devices.
The internal memory of 3GB in both phones will support internal storage of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, depending on variants. The devices will also contain an Octa-core Quad 2.1 GHz + Quad 1.5GHz processors.
The latest Android 5.0 Lollipop will serve as the base operating system to both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. The phones will also be able to connect to LTE Cat.6 which will allow them to process 4G internet data speeds.
The Samsung Pay wireless payment system will enable users to pay through over 95 per cent of payment terminals in the United States through NFC and MST gateways. The security of the payment system will be protected by Samsung KNOX, fingerprint scanning and advanced tokenisation.
The Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge contain in-built batteries of 2550mA and 2600 MAh respectively. Charging the devices from zero to 100 per cent take half as long as the iPhone 6, and a mere ten minute charging can increase the battery life of the devices by 4 hours.
A fully charged battery in both devices can run up to 12 hours of Wi Fi, 11 hours of LTE, 13 hours of video playing and 49 hours of continuous music playback.
The Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge contain probably the best display screens in the smartphone market. the 5.1 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screens with 557ppi density promise superier video and gaming performance. This screen contains 77 per cent more pixels than in the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Both the devices contain advanced user-friendly sensors like Accelerometer, Light, Gyroscope, Proximity, Compass, Barometer, Fingerprint, Hall and HRM.
Availability & Prices
Both the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will be available globally from 10th April onwards. We are yet to hear from Samsung regarding tghe prices of the phones and their variants.
