Apple to launch iPad Mini 4 in April, and phase out the Mini 3

By Jay Jay

This may seem a little early given the norm, but rumour has it that the upcoming iPad Mini 4 may see the light of day as early as April this year.

Even though iPad Mini launches have usually taken place in October every year since the first launch in 2012, Macworld believes that it iPad Mini 4 could be launched in April this year along with the new 12.2" iPad Pro. The early launch may also do away with the first iPad Mini and the iPad Mini 3 which was hardly different from the iPad Mini 2. Apple may however choose to retain the iPad Mini 2 in the market as a cheaper alternative.

Though not much has been rumoured as far as the device features are concerned, a Japanese magazine Mac Fan has suggested that the iPad Mini 4 may be powered by the new A8X processor that also features in the iPad Air 2. The device may also be leaner than the iPad Mini 3 on the lines of the iPad Air series.

A few days ago, we did speculate on a possible launch of the iPad Pro with a 2 GB RAM as well as an updated version of iOS 8. It will be interesting to see the updates OS featuring in the iPad Mini 4 as well.

Though there has been no mention from Cupertino on the launch as yet, we hope to receive a few hints during the MWC taking place in March.
