On the lines of Apple's new-found obsession with larger devices that saw the launch of the iPhone 6 Plus in September last year, rumour has it that Apple is now manufacturing the largest iPad till date.
Named the iPad Pro in some channels, the new device is believed to sport a 12.2 inch display as against 9.7 inches of the iPad Air 2. However, a report by IB Times suggests the new mammoth will be powered by the same A8X chipset that was released in October with the iPad Air 2.
The same report also foresees a 2 GB RAM as well as an updated version of iOS 8 to complement the launch. Another report from The Wall Street Journal believes that the launch was moved to 2015 as Apple wanted its suppliers to meet the rising order and supply gap of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The report estimates the launch date of the new iPad at anytime in the send quarter of 2015. Several leaked images of the new device- also named by some as the iPad Air Plus or the iPad Plus, show the device to be almost one and a half times as large as the iPad Air 2.
This makes it a much bigger prospect than the largest tabs in the market like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S or the Google Nexus 9. If the rumours are true, it will be interesting to see if the new iPad can emulate the success of the iPad Air 2 and maintain Apple's supremacy in the tablet industry in 2015.
