Instagram has stolen the popularity crown from Twitter with the announcement that it has 300 million users, 20 milllion more than the micro blogging site which currently has 284 million on its rolls.
And almost to celebrate the feat, Instagram is rolling out a few welcome features that popular users of the photo blogging site will love them for- Instagram, from now on, will verify accounts of popular instagrammers as well as block spam accounts.
So while those who have perfected the art of selfie taking like Kim Kardashian will have a shiny new sticker next to their profiles, they are also likely to see the number of their followers dip a little with the scores of accounts being removed.
Facebook seem to have social media on lock down with their own 1.35 billion users, 300 million on Instagram and 600 million odd on Whatsapp- the popular messaging app it bought earlier this year and a not-to-be-sneezed-at 500 million on Facebook Messenger.
Is this the start of the end of Twitter?
