Barclays has announced a revolution in UK banking services with the roll-out of its face-to-face video banking from 8th December onwards.
Initially available to premium customers, the service will enable account holders to carry out face-to-face video calls with Barclay’s associates using their smartphones, tablets or computers at any time or place.
Barclays also revealed that mortgages, businesses and wealth customers will be added to the video call services from the beginning of 2015, eventually followed by retail customers.
Steven Cooper, CEO, Personal Banking at Barclays said, 'This is a watershed moment for the way people do their banking in the UK... While many of our customers are increasingly using digital channels to complete routine transactions, for the important moments, you just can’t beat face to face conversations, yet traditional branch opening hours don’t always give customers that choice.'
Once rolled out, Barclays will invite premium customers to conduct their annual account reviews using the new service on 8th December.
While smartphone users will be able to download the app on their iOS and Android devices, laptop and desktop users will need to install a plugin to access the station.
The launch of the video call services was preceded by the successful usage of video technology and Sign Video in a number of branches across the UK.
