EE emerged as the overall winner in the P3 Mobile Benchmark UK, a testing methodology for mobile data networks and voice samples, with well-managed voice network and a dominant data performance.
The company, which also won the Best Network award at the Mobile Chpice Consumer Awards was followed closely behind by 3 which showed the best voice network but lagged behind in data performance. O2 and Vodafone came in as joint third in the overall metrics with O2 clinching it by a few points based on a slight advantage in data performance.
The test used high-tech measurement equipment for all four UK mobile networks in metrics like voice, call quality, success rates, file upload and download speeds, website access, SD and HD mobile video performance and more.
The test was conducted in major metropolitan areas, smaller cities and connecting routes accounting for roughly 13 million people or 20 per cent of the UK population.
Having established the best standards in data and voice performance across networks in the UK, P3 noted that the performance peaked in metropolitan areas and overall services in the UK have significant potential to improve as compared to leading operators in Europe and worldwide. Peter Seidenberg, Managing Director of P3 communications, says: “Comparing the UK results with other P3 mobile benchmarks in Europe and Australia makes it clear that much better performances are achievable. But the good news for all UK mobile customers is that the newest technology potentially provides for much more capability than is currently implemented. We expect to see significant improvements by the time the next testing cycle begins.”
The new benchmark comes in as a big boost for EE which is currently vying with O2 in a sell-out deal with BT in the near future.
