Shopping and fashion app The Hunt launched in the UK today with Rosie Fortescue (Made in Chelsea) as its brand ambassador.
Billed as a cure for outfit envy, the ‘community powered’ iOS app already has over 3 million users state-side and boasts about 150,000 in the UK.
The app was launched in 2013 in sunny San Francisco and counts Ashton Kutcher and Tyra Banks amongst its backers. An interesting mish-mash of features that some of the biggest apps offer these days, we would describe it as a Pinterest-type scrolling board where users upload pictures of items they currently covet. Mostly to do with fashion, we spotted some ‘hunts’ for phone covers and tech accessories too. Other users who are interested in the availability of the products can ‘follow’ the hunt and eventually when users receive answers, they can go and buy.
Co-founder Tim Weingarten is currently not interested in monetising the site with brand tie-ups, that he feels can wait till next year.
He is currently focussed on broadening the user base in the UK with UK-only hunts receiving most traction and although The Hunt is currently an iOS app with plans in the pipeline for an android app soon, users have started over 5 million ‘hunts’ since its inception.
