After a three-year hiatus HTC is getting back into the tablet market - and it’s partnering with Google to create the Nexus 9 Android tab.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, HTC engineers have been flying to Google’s US headquarters in recent months to work on the device.
HTC probably isn’t the most obvious choice for Google, given its failure to make an impact on the tablet market with the Flyer back in 2011, but HTC is on a good run with the widely praised One smartphone range.
If HTC can take the beautiful aluminium design of the One (M8) and scale it up to the size of a 9-inch tablet, then it could well be a success. Google currently employs Asus to manufacturer the popular Nexus 7 tablet and LG to make the Nexus 5 phone.
The Verge also chipped in this week, citing sources who claim the Nexus 9 will be released imminently; however, no other specifications are known other than the 9-inch form factor.
