Samsung has once again partnered with Swarovski to create a special edition of the Gear S smartwatch with a strap covered in the company’s famous crystals.
To be shown off at the IFA technology trade show in Berlin later this week, the Swarovski version of the Gear S uses the company’s Crystal Fine Mesh to create a strap which is coloured gold and completely covered in jewels - a long way from the S’s standard rubber strap.
Aside from the extra bling, the smartwatch is the same as the regular Gear S, which means a 2-inch display, Samsung’s own Tizen operating system, a heart rate monitor, pedometer and - unlike any other smartwatch to date - a SIM card slot to give the gadget its own 3G connection.
With this, the Gear S can make and receive calls, send and deliver text messages, and be connected to the internet without being tethered over Bluetooth to a phone.
Samsung also announced that its partnership with Swarovski will extend to its next “flagship product,” which we understand to be the Galaxy Note 4, a phone Samsung is expected to announce at its Unpacked media event in Berlin tomorrow, 3 September.
