As expected, LG has announced the G Watch R, an Android Wear smartwatch with a circular screen which covers the entire watch face.
To be shown off in public for the first time at the IFA technology trade show in Berlin next week, the G Watch R is a direct rival to the similarly rounded Motorola Moto 360, which will also be at the show.
The LG’s display is plastic OLED and measures 1.3 inches diagonally, slightly smaller than the 1.5-inch Moto 360. LG says the G Watch R is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor - specifically it’s the Snapdragon 400 by Qualcomm.
There’s 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, and it is water resistant to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes. Running Android Wear means the watch is compatible with all smartphones running Android 4.3 or newer.
A compass, barometer and heart rate monitor are included, and we expect the G Watch R to track your movement and exercise with its accelerometer.
Available only in black, the G Watch R doesn’t yet have a price or release date. However, Mobile Choice will be in IFA to bring you our hands-on thoughts on this and all other major products announced there.
