Samsung to host media event on 3 September with Galaxy Note 4 and Alpha phones expected

Just as we expected, Samsung will host a media event in Berlin on 3 September, just ahead of the IFA technology trade show, where it is expected to announce the Galaxy Note 4.

Other new products expected include the Galaxy Alpha, a handset smaller than the flagship S5, but with a premium metal body and chamfered edges similar to the iPhone 5s.

Samsung has held an Unpacked event just before IFA for the past three years and has announced a new version of the Galaxy Note at each, so we fully expect the Note 4 to make an appearance.

The Galaxy Note 4 is rumoured to have a 5.7-inch screen with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 - the same as the brilliant LG G3 and double that of most other smartphones. We also expect a powerful quad-core processor, three gigs of RAM, a fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and the S Pen, Samsung’s useful little stylus which has always given the Note an edge over the phablet competition.

As for the Galaxy Alpha, we expect this to have a 4.8-inch screen with a 720p HD resolution and specs which will place it in the mid-range of the smartphone market - a curious move, given Samsung will surely want to pitch its premium metal design against the iPhone 6 when it arrives in September.

Mobile Choice will be on the ground at IFA to bring you all the news and our hands-on impressions of everything Samsung (and others) have to offer.
