Despite the best efforts from Sony, LG and Samsung, the smartwatch is still a niche device with a design too close to science fiction to appeal to the masses - but now HP might have the answer.
It’s an unlikely tale perhaps, but one which could become reality if the Michael Bastian-designed HP smartwatch pictured above is anything to go by.

Partnering with US retailer Gilt, HP has recruited designer Bastian to create a smartwatch that is both intelligent and multifunctional but also attractive and styled like a traditional wristwatch.
The watch will have a stainless steel case with exposed screw heads and three interchangeable straps of varying colours and textures. The face will be round and measure 44mm across - the typical size of a large regular watch.
Both iOS and Android devices will be compatible with the watch, but we don’t know yet what software it will run. The majority of the competition use Google’s Android Wear operating system.
The watch, or "men's timepiece" will arrive in the autumn, but there’s no word yet on an exact release date or a price - and we’ve a feeling it won’t be cheap.
