Google will announce the next major installment of its Android mobile operating system at the I/O developer conference later today.
Expected to be called Android 5.0 Lollipop, a preview of the software will be shown off at the event, which kicks off at 5pm UK time.
Explaining why Google will show off the new version of Android this week, instead of in the autumn, which has become an annual tradition, senior vice president of Android, Sundar Pichai said: “I want the world to understand what we are doing sooner.”
The Lollipop name has not been confirmed by Google, but all previous version of Android have been named after sweets or desserts and have gone in alphabetical order. For example, the last three have been Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and KitKat.
