Samsung is to announce a smartwatch using Google’s Android Wear operating system at the company’s I/O developer conference this week.
Manufacturers including LG and Motorola are also expected to announce wearable devices at the annual event, which kicks off with a keynote address by Google on 25 June.
It is believed that event attendees of Google I/O will receive LG’s smartwatch, called the G Watch, as a gift to help them get to grips with creating applications for Android Wear.
If Samsung is to follow LG and Motorola, questions will be asked about the company’s own Gear range of smartwatches and their Tizen operating system.
The original Galaxy Gear watch used a modified version of Android, but the second generation Gear, Gear Neo and Gear Fit all use Samsung’s Tizen software.
