Samsung has produced a 12-inch tablet with a 4K Ultra HD screen - but it remains a prototype for now.
Created as a reference device for network operators to perform tests with, the tablet was spotted at an LTE Broadband event at the French Open tennis tournament. Although full specifications of the tablet are not known, TechRadar, who spotted the super slate, was told it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, as found in most of the newest flagship smartphones and tablets.
It is hoped that if (or when) a 4K tablet comes to the market, it will have the newer Snapdragon 805 chip, which comes with 4K-friendly features such as the ability to upscale 720p and 1080p HD video to the higher resolution.
The tablet’s screen resolution was referred to as Quad HD - the same as the LG G3, which would suggest a pixel count of 1440 x 2560, or double that of a regular Full-HD display.
