LG G3: Major leak reveals everything you need to know

A huge leak by LG’s Dutch website has revealed just about everything about the G3 smartphone, including high-resolution press images and details of many of its features.

The webpage was inadvertently published just hours before the G3 is due to be announced at a media event in London, which Mobile Choice will be attending this evening.

The leak confirms a quad-HD screen measuring 5.5 inches and having a resolution of 1440 x 2560. This produces a massive pixel density of 538 per inch, over 200 more than the iPhone 5s and its Retina display.

A “lightweight metal housing” is also confirmed, putting to bed a debate surrounding whether the G3 will be made from metal or plastic. Despite this, we still aren’t sure if the phone has an aluminium chassis, or if it’s just the outer cover which is metal.

The LG G3 has a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation - a huge bonus over most of its Android and iOS rivals which will hopefully produce incredible photos and beautifully smooth video.

Inside, there’s a 1-watt speaker to rival the HTC One (M8)’s Boom Sound speakers, while Knock Code means you can tap a customisable pattern against the phone’s screen to wake it up and unlock it - a clever alternative to a PIN or password.

A feature called Smart Notice uses your location and general behavior to help make your life easier. Fort example, the phone will ask if you want to switch its Wi-Fi connection on when you get home, or will remind you of missed calls at a more convenient time.

The LG G3 has a 3,000mAh battery and wireless charging, which - although not quite confirmed yet - appears to be integrated with the phone itself, rather than relying on an attachable cover, as is the case with most phones capable of wireless charging. A removable back cover and battery also means you can swap in a new one (sold seperately) if you run out of charge.

LG’s new Quick Circle cover was also shown off in the leak, which has a circular hole through which you can see notifications and interact with certain applications.

The only details missing now are the G3’s price and release date - and whether a wearable device or smartwatch will be announced alongside the smartphone. All will be revealed at LG’s launch event in London this evening, 27 May, from 6pm UK time.
