BlackBerry will not be leaving the handset market, its chief executive officer has stated after a report claimed he would consider abandoning smartphone production.
CEO John Chen has accused the Reuters news agency of taking his comments out of context in a report published on 9 April, and has retaliated on Blackberry’s own blog, saying he has “no intention of selling off or abandoning this business any time soon.”
Chen added that his focus is “on finding a way to make this business profitable...We will do everything in our power to continue to rebuild this business and deliver devices with the iconic keyboard and other features that you have come to expect from this brand.”
The 58-year-old also spoke about BlackBerry’s other - and more successful - business ventures, including enterprise services and software, messaging, and machine-to-machine technology used to power the Internet of Things.
Chen concluded: “Rest assured, we continue to fight. We have not given up and we are not leaving the devices business.”
