The Sony Xperia Z2 has been delayed by UK retailers until May, as the company struggles to deal with high demand.
Unlocked Mobiles sent an email to customers who had pre-ordered the handset informing them that it had been delayed “for all retailers until early May”. The Xperia Z2 was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February and was due to go on sale worldwide in early April.
Sony has admitted that it is experiencing difficulties in fulfilling pre-orders, but claims the problems are not as bad as retailers claim.
The phone-maker told Mobile Choice: “The Xperia Z2 will be available in the UK during April and we are expecting to deliver to all consumers who have placed a pre-order through our key partners.
“We are working tirelessly to maximise stock levels in April but currently we do not expect to meet the high demand across all our sales channels. Please stay tuned for further information and confirmed retail availability.”
Any delay could be damaging to Sony, as rival Samsung is due to put its flagship Galaxy S5 on sale on 11 April, while the HTC One (M8) is already on sale and has gained widespread praise from the technology press.
