HTC to offer Blinkfeed for other Android smartphones

The big launch this week was the new HTC One. But it wasn't the only thing HTC was pushing.

The company has also announced that its Blinkfeed interface is going beyond the boundaries of HTC and onto other smartphones via the Google Play store. That's good news if you like those kind of layers or indifferent news if you like your Android set-up plain and simple.

HTC confirmed the move in an official statement: 'Following its popularity with HTC users, HTC will now make HTC BlinkFeed available to other Android devices, launching on the Google Play store soon.'

It is actually in the Google Play store now, but only for the new HTC One. So 'soon' isn't quite yet. Perhaps HTC is waiting until its new partners on Blinkfeed are good to go. The company has also announced that Fitbit and Foursquare are the first third parties working on Blinkfeed, offering fitness and location services respectively.

It perhaps makes sense for their work to be in place before the rollout to non-HTC kit. If we see it launch for other devices, we'll certainly let you know.
