Motorola rumoured to be launching 6-inch phablet

Detail is scarce, but a well-informed tipster is pointing to a phablet from Motorola before the year is out.

Such a device was rumoured last year, but that was when Google was in control of the company. Since then, Lenovo has taken on ownership and with it, perhaps one or two of its launches.

The previous whisper pointed to a device called the Motorola XPlay, said to be a 6.3-inch device. At the time, it was said that the device (along with the recently launched smartwatch) was already designed. Now a credible Chinese source (one that pitched the Moto X and Moto G correctly) is claiming that a 6-inch smartphone will land in the third quarter of 2014 (between July and September).

However, the name is no longer mentioned, so perhaps Lenovo has its own ideas on that front. Talking of not mentioned, there's pretty much nothing on the specification. But if this is correct, we would expect leaks galore in the coming months.

And when it does launch, it's probably going to go head to head with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which is expected at around the same time. So if you want a phablet, you might be spoiled for choice when summer is out.
