New HTC One to hit the shelves minutes after launch

We have been forced to wait longer than expected for the new HTC One, but there will be no time wasted in getting the new flagship hardware into your hand.

Not if you want it from Carphone Warehouse anyway. The phone retailer has confirmed that the HTC One, which is the official name (rather than the M8 or HTC One Two) will be on sale from 4pm on 25 March 2014. That's right, the same day as the actual HTC launch event.

Sadly, it isn't every single Carphone Warehouse store. There's a London-centric vibe about the list of Westfield Stratford, Westfield White City, Oxford Circus, Centrepoint and Tottenham Court Road, which will each hold its own launch events for the handset. Presumably that means you can get hands-on before you commit yourself to two years of a contract.

As for the rest of us, we would expect sales to follow not long after. The stock will be in the country, so probably a case of getting the events out of the way, then rolling out nationwide. By next weekend, you should have one to play with no matter where you are.

As for the phone itself, that has been heavily leaked (not least on eBay) and is expected to feature a 5-inch Full HD display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM, MicroSD slot, dual front stereo speakers with built-in amplifier, duo camera with Ultrapixel and up to 32GB of storage.

Confirmation of everything in less than a week.
