A gold version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available exclusively through Vodafone when the phone launches on 11 April.
Samsung’s latest flagship Android smartphone was announced at Mobile World Congress last month and is the South Korean company’s answer to the Apple iPhone 5s; both phones feature a fingerprint scanner for increased security, along with the latest, top-of-the-range mobile processors.
The gold Galaxy S5 is available for pre-order - along with Samsung’s blue, black and white colour options - from 28 March. Pre-ordering on that day will guarantee you an S5 on its 11 April launch date.
Focusing on what it calls a “modern glam look”, the Galaxy S5 looks almost identical to the S4 from the front, but has a rear case featuring a soft feel and dimpled finish with a metallic shine.
The Galaxy S5 has a 5in screen with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, and is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, clocking in at 2.5GHz and joined by 2GB of RAM.
Waterproofing makes its debut on the Galaxy S range with the S5, as does the aforementioned fingerprint reader, which is integrated into the phone’s Home button, letting users unlock the handset without a PIN or password. Unlike Apple’s scanner on the iPhone 5s, developers can use the S5’s biometric security feature with their applications; PayPal is the first company to do so, letting S5 owners authorise payments.
On the back, the S5 has a 16-megapixel camera, and this is joined by a two-megapixel shooter on the front. A heart rate monitor sits next to the flash of the rear camera, tracking the user’s health and syncing this data with the phone’s S Health application.
Mobile Choice will be publishing an extensive review of the Galaxy S5 soon.
