Android KitKat rolls out to UK Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3

Good news for owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 in the UK, your new operating system is currently rolling out.

It is rolling out for some of you anyway. Android 4.4.2 KitKat is heading to unlocked models of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 right now, which is good news for some of you, not so if you have a contract. No idea when that will come through, as it will be dictated by your network giving the nod after testing. But if you bought outright, you should see a notification on your phone offering you the new OS.

When you do get offered it, make sure you are in a Wi-Fi zone before you download. It is said to be between 300 and 400MB in size, so not something you want out of your data allowance.

The update isn't a huge one in terms of features, although you will see some changes with the likes of the phone dialler (with contacts also arranged in terms of popularity), an improved Hangouts app, voice control via 'Okay Google', native cloud printing, tweaks to notification bars and lock screen album art, for example. It's also a more efficient operating system, so less stress on your phone's memory too.

Which means it is well worth downloading when it is offered to you. Which should be now or in the very near future.
