iOS 7.1 update expected in days

We've been talking about it for some time now, but we've never been quite sure when iOS 7.1 will land. We now think it will be in a matter of days.

We heard it was essentially finished at the start of February, which makes us wonder why Apple hasn't bothered rolling out the first major update to iOS 7 just yet. However, it now looks like Apple is just waiting for the right moment.

That 'moment' should be the end of this week or the start of next, according to Apple watchers Daring Fireball. They point to Apple's first iTunes Festival in the US kicking off next week at South by Southwest, a big event on the music calendar. Apple apparently wants to stream performances from this, which requires a new app, which in turn requires iOS 7.1. Hence the need to launch it before that date.

When it does land, we can expect a mix of new features and bug fixes, although we think it will lean more towards the latter, especially now Apple CarPlay has launched separately.

Previously, slowness, app crashes and phone restarts have all been cited as being top of Apple's 'to do' list, while the overall experience is said to be much more cohesive and thought out compared to version one, which could mean one or two additions that didn't make it first time around.

All should be revealed soon. After that, it's a matter of being patient. You really don't want to get stuck in the download queue in the first few hours.
