We have been speculating about it for months, so it's with some relief that we confirm the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5. There's some pretty nifty features included too.Yes, the biggest launch of MWC finally came and when it did, Samsung didn't disappoint. The S5 is the upgraded flagship we expected, but with a couple of talking points that could set the tone for the rest of the year.As for the specification, the S5 has a 2.5GHz quad-core chipset, along with 2GB RAM, a choice of 16GB or 32GB storage (plus microSD slot to boost more), a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution and a 2800mAh battery. If the latter doesn't sound too impressive, there's an ultra-power saving mode, which can keep the power going longer by taking out a lot of the power-guzzling features. Android 4.4 KitKat is of course the operating system. In terms of the camera, we're looking at a 16-megapixel sensor that can shoot 4K video, with the added advantage of real time HDR and background refocus. You'll also find a 2.1-megapixel camera on the front for those selfies and networking. All as expected, so let's look at some things you might not have seen coming. First up, as Samsung tries to take the lead on health (a key battlefield for mobiles this year), you will find a heart rate sensor included where your index finger should rest in 'hold'. That works with the S Health 3.0 app within to keep a track of your wellbeing during the day. Just don't check it after a stressful meeting. On the front, you'll find a fingerprint scanner, looking not unlike the home button. A touch and you are in. You can also use the same thing for shopping via PayPal too, the fingerprint securely verifying your details for any mobile purchasing. Finally, the Galaxy S5 can connect your 4G LTE connection with your Wi-Fi connection for superfast download using Download Booster. Anything that boost speeds is definitely good with us.All of that is wrapped up in a water-resistant casing, as Samsung muscles in on Sony's territory a little. You can see it for yourself from 11 April, when it lands on UK shelves. We would expect all the UK networks to stock it in the official shades of Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold, with pricing at a premium level.
