Acer unveils Liquid E3 smartphone

Another pre-MWC launch, but at least it guarantees Acer some column inches for the Liquid E3 and Liquid Z4 during the calm before the storm.

The Liquid E3 is the star of the show and could be good value too. It's essentially at the top end of the mid-range, offering a 4.7-inch, 720p IPS screen, a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera, matched with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Downside? Just 4GB of storage. The OS of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is a concern too, as is the vague promise of an upgrade later this year.

So a decent phone on paper, with a couple of obvious drawbacks. Well, three if you add in a lack of 4G. It's still well priced in Europe though, retailing for €199.

As for the Liquid Z4, that offers less, but for a notably smaller amount of cash too. Packing a 4-inch screen, it also offers a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and again, just 4GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera and Jelly Bean for the operating system.

But at €99, it still might be a contender. Both phones should hit European shelves in April and both should get showcased at MWC next week. Although they might be a little lost in the crowd.
