ZTE planning Grand Memo II LTE launch and a Firefox OS handset at MWC

Anyone remember the ZTE Grand Memo? It launched at last year's MWC, a sizeable and well-featured phablet that took aim at the Galaxy Note, but for a little less cash. Well, the phone is returning next week in enhanced form under the name ZTE Grand Memo II LTE.

Details are pretty scarce, with Adam Zeng, CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices only confirming that it will showcase an 'ultra slim Grand Memo II LTE with 6 inch screen'. That's a little larger than the previous model, pictured above, but likely to be noticeably slimmer. What we don't know is what's going on under the bonnet. We would expect a step up across the board though. Of course, the 'LTE' also indicates 4G connectivity on this model too.

Mr Zena also added that the company would also launch the 'ZTE Open C in partnership with Mozilla and Telefonica', which will be a Firefox OS smartphone. I think it's fair to say that Firefox has yet to grab anyone's imagination when it comes to smartphones. But the potential is there for a low-priced Android competitor. With that in mind, be interesting to see how ZTE has pushed things along in a year or so.

ZTE is also expected to unveil version 2.3 of its MiFavor UI, which will appear on its Android handsets at MWC, along with what could be the defining device of MWC 2014, a smart watch.

We'll keep an eye out for all of that next week.
