Alleged shots of HTC M8 smartphone appear online

Earlier yesterday, an image leaked of the HTC M8, which was swiftly written off as a fake by a HTC executive. Overnight another has appeared, Is this one the real deal?

We're never sure these days, photo editing software is sophisticated enough to create a clever copy and as we have found out in the past, people really do have the time and inclination to create fake imagery of upcoming mobile phones.

But these photos, via the Russian site Mobiltelfon, do have the look of what we might expect from the HTC M8 and come with a specification that doesn't sound far off the mark either. So on-screen navigation keys and Boomsound speakers on the slimline phone and an an alleged specification that includes a 5-inch screen with 1080 x 1920 resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM and a dual-sensor 5-megapixel Ultrapixel camera on back. Android 4.4.2 is the operating system.

Real or fake, we really can't say for sure. But if it is fake, it does at least give you an idea of what the M8 (or HTC One Two) might look like when it is officially unveiled, likely to be at the end of March.
