Leaked images could be Sony Xperia Z2

Some of you might recall that we heard about a potential Sony Xperia Z2 last week, which was rumoured to be launching at the MWC event in February. That rumour just became more weighty after images of a phone sounding rather like it were posted on an online forum.

It looks like the Z1, but model number D6503 on the XDA Developers forum is said to be thinner and with a better quality screen than the current Z1. The poster also added that it had a 5.2-inch screen and a 20.7-megapixel camera. It currently runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but that last detail isn't really important. If it is a new model, it would likely launch with Android KitKat.

The forum user posting the image is apparently UK based and  got the phone from a friend. That doesn't sound like a high level leak to us, leaving some doubt about it. Perhaps it was a prototype handset that never was or is a potential spin off from the Z1?

But with that previous rumour pointing to a Z2 launching with 5.2-inch screen and 20.7-megapixel camera, we just can't walk away from this leaked phone. It fits perfectly, although it does seem a little soon after the launch of the Xperia Z1 to be replacing it with an all-new model.

Once again, we're expecting MWC to serve up the answers. That takes place in just over a month's time.
