Huawei Ascend P6 S launches

We reviewed the Huawei P6 back in july last year. To be honest, we weren't blown away by it and a lack of 4G didn't help its cause. Now there's a Huawei Ascend P6 S on the market. Has Huawei sorted out the issues? On the face of it, not really.

It seems like Huawei has just added a little extra power to the smartphone, adding a quad-core 1.6GHz processor, which is up from 1.5GHz on the original phone. it's also slightly thicker (which doesn't strike us as a good thing), with dual-SIM support added, rather than simply being an option.

That means there is still no 4G support and no shift in the Android OS, which remains stubbornly at Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, working alongside the Emotion UI 2.0 interface. For reference, the rest of the headline features are 4.7-inch LCD with 720p resolution, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

If you happen to be considering the phone, you might be pleased with the extra power. But if you weren't, there's nothing here to change your mind. It's probably just a stop gap thing anyway, with a Huawei Ascend P7 rumoured to be launching in the first half of 2014. A phone that will offer 4G.
