Samsung Galaxy S5 could launch as two phones

The details of the Samsung Galaxy S5 are finally coming together thanks to a succession of leaks and pretty solid rumours.

The latest comes from a site that has one of the better Samsung tracks records, SamMobile. It claims that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be offered in both a metal and plastic finish. Sounds familiar? Yes, not unlike Apple with the iPhone 5s and 5c on the face of it. That will create a two-tier pricing structure, 800 Euros for the metal phone and 650 Euros for the plastic in Europe.

The phone itself is likely to be much the same for both models. A screen of around 5.25 inches will have an AMOLED display of 2,560 × 1,440 resolution, the processor will be the Exynos 6 or a Snapdragon 805 depending on whether it's a 4G phone or not and the camera will be of a 16-megapixel variety. Android 4.4 KitKat will be the operating system.

That's probably half the story, with Samsung almost certain to have a few tricks up its sleeve on top of the basic specification. We should find out what those tricks are at an event in London in March (date still to be confirmed), with the handsets scheduled to hit the shelves in April. Samsung is also said to be launching a Galaxy S5 mini and Galaxy S5 Zoom not long after. Yes, the Samsung phones just keep coming. No change there.
