Sony opens UK pre-sales for Xperia Z1 Compact

It was one of the big launches at CES and while the excitement is still high, Sony is hoping to tempt you in for a pre-order of the Xperia Z1 Compact.

That's a 'pre-order', not an 'order'. Sony's shrunk-down smartphone is available from, but ahead of an actual shelf date. That's still being quoted as the end of February. Other places will do you a pre-order too (Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U), but Sony hopes you'll opt for them if you want to go SIM-free by throwing in a Sony Smartwatch 2. That got a pretty decent review off us at the back end of 2013, so it's quite a tasty bonus.

As for the phone itself, it's a smaller version of Sony's existing flagship, with a slightly smaller price to match. As for features, it has a 4.3-inch IPS 1280 x 720 screen with 341ppi, a 20.7-megapixel camera, a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, a 2300mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (updating to Android 4.4 KitKat in weeks), 16GB of storage, a microSD card and a colour choices of pink, lime, white, and black. Waterproofing naturally. It's a Sony Xperia phone.

If the deal appeals, go get it now, If not, wait for your network of choice to show its terms.
