Archos confirms 45 and 50 Helium 4G smartphones

If you have product that might get lost in the trade show rush, a good tactic is to slip it out early. A tactic Archos is employing with the 45 and 50 Helium smartphones.

The phones will still get a showcase at CES, but the early launch does guarantee some lead column space, something it might not have in a few days time. Although to be fair, the phones are definitely worth talking about.

They look like pretty strong handsets for the cash, which isn't a surprise from a company known for value tech. Take your pick from the 50 Helium and 45 Helium handsets, both with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (although an upgrade to KitKat is planned), a quad-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8926 processor, 1GB RAM, Adreno 305 graphics, a microSD card slot expansion, that all-important 4G LTE (as we enter 2014), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0.

The 50 Helium also has a 5-inch display with 1,280-by-720-pixel resolution, 8GB of storage, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera (with 1080p video recording) and a 2-megapixel networking camera.

Slightly down the scale is the 45 Helium, with a 4.5-inch display at 854-by-480-pixel resolution, 4GB of storage, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p video recording and a VGA front-facing camera.

The phones will launch in Europe although there's no official date as yet. As for pricing, SIM-free, you are looking at £199.99 for the 45 Helium and £239.99 for the 50 Helium.
