Sub-£30 Datawind Ubislate tablet heading to UK

Cheapest tablet on the market? I think we can safely say that it will soon be the Datawind UbiSlate 7Ci. But cheap doesn't necessarily leave you cheerful.

Although it might if money really is tight. Following good sales in India, the Datawind range is heading to the UK, with the entry level model being the UbiSlate 7Ci. That features a 7-inch TFT capacitive display, 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of flash storage, front VGA camera and Android 4.0. £29.99 gets you one.

'With recent figures showing that in the UK, 29 per cent of the poorest households have no computer and 36 per cent no internet, we’re working to bring affordable technology to the many hundreds of thousands of households excluded from benefiting from the digital revolution', Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO at UbiSlate, added.

If you want to treat yourself and head up the range, you can also opt for the UbiSlate 7C+ model, which adds EDGE 2G connection for £69.99, while the UbiSlate 3G7 adds 3G GSM connectivity, a rear 2-megapixel camera, and Android 4.1 for £129. You can use a SIM card in the 7C+ and 3G7 tablets to make phone calls, with both said to include 'one year of basic browsing free of charge'.

As we said, you probably get what you pay for here, but if basic browsing is pretty much all you need, these tablets might be worth checking out.
