Aldi offers a tablet for under £80

If you thought the Argos tablet and the Tesco Hudl were cheap, you'll be blown away by Aldi's budget slate.

The budget supermarket chain has introduced a suitably budget tablet, specifically the Medion Lifetab E7316. You can pick this 7-inch tablet for just £79.99 right now - although we suspect stock will be cleared out unless you are quick.

On the face of it, the Medion tablet isn't bad either, not least because it is powered by a quad-core 1.6GHz processor. But look closely and you'll see just 8GB of storage, a rather dated Android 4.2.2 for the operating system and an unimpressive 1,024x600 display. It's Wi-Fi only too, so forget getting a 3G data deal here. But at £79.99 what do you expect?

Essentially, you get what you pay for with most tablets, so if you want more, you'll need to spend more. Something like £119 for a Hudl (less if you have Clubcard vouchers) or £199 for a Google Nexus 7 to name just two other contenders.
