Free music streaming could be coming to Spotify mobile apps

There has been a free desktop service, but not so with Spotify's mobile apps. All that could be about to change, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In a report, it claims Spotify is looking to bring free listening to its iOS and Android apps, but not completely free. You'll pay in two ways. Firstly, you'll have an ad-supported service and secondly, you will be limited in terms of what you can listen to. In other words, it's a taster, Spotify still wants you to pay out £9.99 per month. This  might be a way of tempting you in.

Of course, with a growing number of ad-supported streaming services out there (Apple and its iTunes Radio app being the most recent), Spotify probably feels that it needs to do something to encourage more people in. Free is always a good thing, so we can't see this failing - limited or not.

We're not sure when the service will launch, but with Spotify hosting a press event in both New York and London next week, it seems like we'll not have to wait long for confirmation of details.

When announced, you'll hear all about it first.
